About Forrealism
A Portal to Contemporary Indigenous American Art
Forrealism is a collective of artists, activists, and educators who view art as education and a key to a peaceful and prosperous future.
The artists represented here make paintings, murals, films, animations, and installations as they seek to beautify the world through these creations.
While public art, art instruction, and community based mural painting has been the foundation of our creativity for over fifteen years, we continue to innovate in paint, digital media. Examples of our work can be found in our On-Line Galleries.
The subject matter of our work for the past decade has been an expression of cultural identity in our modern world, an investigation into the identities of Californians.
From contemporary interpretations of ancient meso-American codex paintings, to satirical calavera (skeleton) paintings in the tradition of Jose Guadalupe Posada, to semiological fusions of cultural symbols, our work has sought to vigorously reassert our indigenous perspective within a multicultural world.
